Biography

Patrick Hawes is an English composer who has made his mark as a torchbearer of the English musical tradition. He is best known for writing the Highgrove Suite for HRH Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, for being Composer-in-Residence at the U.K.’s largest classical music station, Classic FM, and for the Number One albums Angel and The Great War Symphony. Among others, he has written for The King’s Singers, Voces8, the Choir of New College Oxford, Julian Lloyd Webber, and orchestras including the Philharmonia and the Royal Philharmonic.

His vast and varied catalogue encompasses everything from small-scale piano and chamber works to full-scale symphonies and large choral works. Most recently, he has written and recorded The Great War Symphony as part of the official commemorations to mark the centenary of the First World War. Upon its release, the recording immediately entered the classical charts at Number One where it remained for several weeks. It received its World Premiere performance in Oct 2018 at London’s Royal Albert Hall, followed a month later by the U.S. Premiere at New York’s Carnegie Hall.
